Path of Petroglyphs

Path of Petroglyphs

Yesterday I sent my fifth book to the printer: Path of Petroglyphs: Symbols for the Ages. It tells the story of a bikecore journey that began in Minneapolis and wound its way to Jeffers Petroglyphs, then Pipestone, across the Sandhills, down the Front Range, up the Arkansas River, over Pancho Pass, and along the Rio Grande through Tres Piedras, Los Alamos, and Jemez to Albuquerque. From there, I rode through the pueblos and El Malpais, crossed the divide into Arizona, followed the Coronado Trail, and climbed the heights of six mountain ranges in Southeast Arizona — the Pinalenos, Chiricahuas, Dragoons, Huachucas, Patagonias, and the Santa Rita — before descending to the low desert and, eventually, to below sea level: the underworld.

I began to see my route as its own petroglyph — a carved path through both time and place. Along the way, I met several of you from this community. We are everywhere, but the Slabs were where I saw the most familiar faces — and yes, you’re in the book.

Note: This was also a spiritual journey of sorts. I started out agnostic, but I met many Christians and felt moved to share a message with them: to step out of the clouds and be present in truth. As I wrote in the book, “The people they served wanted truth now; their stomachs wanted truth.”

This is just my proof copy, so I expect to find more edits once I see it in print. In fact, I’ve already found a big one — somehow a block of unrelated text dropped from my clipboard into the middle of a paragraph on page 172 (it’s a current story about a little boy getting sick). Not sure how I missed it, but I’ll work on uploading the corrected version soon.
