Now I linked what I linked and I didn't give him a warning or anything like that I just pointed a rule out that I felt he might want to become more familiar with.
This user, Philip The Vagabond, proceeded to lose his shit at his warning and THAT is what resulted in getting banned.

These are contradicting statements, unless someone besides @Engineer J Lupo issued the warning to Phillip Vagabond, or @EphemeralStick is referring to a verbal warning, but I am under the impression there is a formal warning able to be issued to members? Correct me if I'm wrong please so I know.

Philip got a verbal warning, same as NewMexicoJim. Not something formal (no points issued) just something along the lines of "Hey, don't do that." He then proceeded to get highly defensive, unlike NewMexicoJim, which resulted in his banning. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Ok, thanks. I was under the impression there was a "formal" type of warning able to be issued, is that what the "points" are?

@SaltyCrew yes, when a formal warning is issued a warning point is given to that user that will stay on their account for 90 days after it is given. Receiving three points will instantly ban an account.

In instances like this where it is very possible that the user's flirtation could be a misunderstanding we don't go and issue a point directly and instead we contact said user with a message along the lines of "these are our rules, your post is considered to be against them" and then we wait to see what their reaction is. Damn near every time though the user will get aggro, as Philip did, and then we'll issue a point/ban depending on the extent of their tantrum.

Thank you for explaining it to me.

Support StP!

Donations go towards paying our monthly server fees, adding new features to the website, and occasionally putting a burrito in Matt's mouth.

Total amount
$115.00
Goal
$100.00

Monthly Goals

  1. Paying the Bills
    $50.00 of $50.00 - reached!
The first $50 in donations go towards paying our monthly server fees and adding new features to the website. Once this goal is reached, we'll see about feeding Matt that burrito.
  2. Buy Matt a Beer
    $75.00 of $75.00 - reached!
Now that we have the bills paid for this month, let's give Matt a hearty thank you by buying him a drink for all the hard work he's done for StP. Hopefully his will help keep him from going insane after a long day of squishing website bugs.
  3. Feed Matt a Burrito
    $100.00 of $100.00 - reached!
Now that the bills are paid and Matt has a beer in his hand, how about showing him your love by rewarding all his hard work with a big fat burrito to put in his mouth. This will keep him alive while programming new features for the website.
  4. Finance the Shopping Cart
    $115.00 of $200.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt is fed, perhaps it's time to start planning for those twilight years under the bridge... if only he had that golden shopping cart all the oogles are bragging about these days.
