My buddy and i will be backpacking Europe camping as much as possible with very little money. What did ya'll eat while doing similar things? We are planning on mostly just rice, any shots at free day old bread or other lucky things?
 
Where do you plan on heading?
I can't speak for mainland Europe but dumpstering in the UK can produce pretty good food hauls. Most stores at closing time also have really cheap bread and stuff like that (sandwiches,cakes,fruit).

In Asia I mainly eat local street foods, normally really cheap, you can actually live really well too if your brave. The shits go away after about a week. 40s in the Philipines are like 15 cents at convenience stores. I've also had huge success at hostels out here, especially ones ran by ex pats, normally can get bed, food, and booze for a couple of hours of work the next day. Plus rich back packer kids super gullible and will pay for just about anything if you show them around for the day.
