idk, not to piddle on the parade here, but...if the NYT declared it, I would be MIGHTY suspicious.
"The Revolution will not be televised"
I used to joke that the revolution will ONLY be televised. Meaning, something that the networks call 'The Revolution' (tm) would be televised, complete with commercials and we would sit and watch it in the comfort of our homes and then we could order the t-shirts and posters and soundtrack on QVC.
