How would one get to Alaska from the 48 by freight hopping or boat hopping? Do you guys have tips on cargo boats and/or trains?

Perhaps a little research is in order. Yes, I know I am an asshole... but seriously, try researching your own question.
You won't get there freight hopping. The Alaskan railroad is 100% self contained; it doesn't link up with any Canadian railways AT ALL. I was there last summer and looked into it myself.
