Yes,
I have the Modular sleeping system 4 -piece (technically it's 3 because the compression sack shouldn't count, but I digress)
I do not trust the plastic slide stop buckles that lock the straps in place while you're compressing it. It hasn't happened yet, but they will break. I've had plenty of those break in my time on the road. Also the material just seems cheap / not durable enough to handle the stresses of the compression; when compressed fully, you can see the threads pulling apart from the bag.

So, my question is, is there any thing better than what I have for the MSS?

Theres no avoiding wear and tear. It's a very durable construction.. but like everything else, it will not stand the test of time so long as you are using it regularly.

I've seen, time and again, people posting about possible alternatives. But imho nothing as convenient and manageable in comparison.

For extreme cold conditions though I would suggest taking a look at the extreme cold military mummy-style sleep bag.. (don't remember the exact name they had for it, sorry). I've seen homeless guys with these things.. They're a lot bulkier though and only worth the added weight if it is absolutely necessary.

All in all you are pretty much gauranteed to have to replace the gortex bivvy cover at some point.
