I have, eh, maybe $500. And I have a typewriter with which I can write poems in the street for money (in English). Should I get more if I intend to bike or hitch around indefinitely in Europe?

yeah I do now, just got it in nola. It weighs only like eight pounds.
Almost certainly. The more money you have the more flexibility and freedom you have in travel. If you have a way to make more money before you leave, I'd do it because there's basically no downside to having some extra cash for unexpected expenses (buses, bike repairs, a night in a hostel, etc.)
