Hello everyone just want to say that if it wasn't for YouTube videos & digging around online I wouldn't have even gotten this far into my journey. I am willing to watch read or learn the hard way about freight train riding from Florida to Indiana. It's gonna be a long journey but that's ok with me. Not wanting anyone to hold my hand or anything on this one but a few good questions have already been answered here just by reading. Thank you all already for the little bit of stuff I have already learned.,
 
First off welcome! Check out the road Dawg section and post there. Surely, somebody will want to pick you up. If you was close ii'd show you what i know.
 
if you didnt grow up watching the rails or knowing train lines or anything about trains........good luck from my perspective and many people i meet on the rails grew up train fans if you know nothing like shit catch a bus you'll die and yes it would be like someone holding your hand its fucking extra sorry if i killed your spirit but its the harsh truth if you cant tell the difference between CSX BNSF NS CP KCS CN or UP. coal drags hotshots grainers manifests.... your a lost boy

When I started riding I didnt know jackshit about trains except they hauled stuff on tracks. i I learned by sitting and watching.Today so much info is available either on here or elsewhere that you should be able to at least figure some things out.Also not everyone has an elitist bs attitude.Plenty of people would likely be willing to drag you along with them.

I've been in plenty of situations were I knew nothing about what was really going on, it made me nervous but I lived.
Just keep a positive outlook and pay attention.

dude im not an elitest by any means but no one taught me shit when i started riding. Im sick of these yuppie hipsters with a college degree looking for a good time

Oh I get it, believe me. And the OP'S post does sound alot like that is the case.

However, people are gonna do what they are going to do. Might as well tell them to use the "search" feature....or tell them that recruitment numbers for FTRA are up over %1000 .....might scare them off haha

I deleted it cuz I knew I was ranting but same like I said it kills me it shouldn't like the other guy said no reason getting mad about shit I can't change and no it doesn't make you a poser but there is a difference when you live in your car or having it parked at your parents mansion while you run around acting like you gotta do this I wish I had a house I wish I had a car I wish a lot but fuck it I love trains so I'm blessed
 
But no, serioussly, I get it. Some people idolize "hobo culture" and think it's sunshine and rainbows. They get caught, and increase security. It fucking sucks for everyone.

The best thing you could do is just...not help them, if you don't want them out there. Either they figure it out, get caught, or don't do it. 90% will probably give it up and just buy a bus ticket or something.
