A shitty introduction by yours truly, I'm bones, a bean punk from Michigan, I have recently come back from over seas (not U.S military) back to my home, Iv traveled all around but actually am here for someone to show me the ropes in train hopping. Not entirely sure what to expect from this community but anyone in the Michigan area hmu!!

In Midwest culture your either a squash, a bean or corn.
Like the three sisters.

Also my trip over seas is more fit for late night camp fire talk.

So the indigenous peoples of the Midwest did what was called companion planting where they would plant beans corn and squash together (called the three sisters) each plant helps another, every now and again you'll see people playing the game, are you a squash a bean or corn, you basically decide based on your knowledge of how the plants help one another and how it pertains to you.

word that's awesome, i do recall that, just knowing the 3 sisters, but i like the whole assimilation/metaphor for personalities thing goin there

what makes you a bean as opposed to a squash or corn then?

Beans are nitrogen fixers so in other words they feed the soil, the squash and corn so they can grow strong and resilient. Me and my friends feel that's rather fitting for me. But yea spread it along its actually pretty good campfire conversation.

So in companion planting;

The corn provides a structure for the beans to climb, eliminating the need for poles.

The beans provide the nitrogen to the soil that the other plants use.

The squash spreads along the ground, blocking the sunlight, helping prevent the establishment of weeds and the prickly hairs of the vine deter pests.

So.. from this to personality metaphors, what are the roles exactly?

Corn sounds like a supportive person. One to carry the weight of others. The umbrella when the weather is tough. Cool, calm and collected in times of distress.

Beans would be what.. like team players yeah? They put the whole community first. Also providers I guess right? I imagine that could be providing anything that others need or appreciate. From food/clothing/shelter to knowledge etc?

And what's squash? Sounds like a protector keeping the weeds and pests in line. Maybe that's like regulating obnoxious oogles, sticking up for anyone being fucked with by others? The type to clean up after not only themselves but others as well.

Am I doing this right? I'm trying to understand it but there's nothing coming up online for "bean corn or squash punk"

Well there really isn't any wrong way to play it, sometimes kids just pick which plant they like eating the most. Its pretty much open to your own interpretation.

Where I come from, Rain is a good thing.

Rain makes corn
Corn makes whisky
Whisky makes my baby
A little bit frisky
