New Guy Here. About to hit the Road

Hey folks,

I'm not exactly the traveling type on the typical, but I'm about to hit the trail and see what's out there. I've done some moving around in my own zone, but haven't Kerouac'd and well.. at the age of 35, it's getting late, so I'm giving it a go. I've been looking all over for communities, houses, easy to score jobs, friends and the like and I thought it might be best to leave the research to the professionals. Best advice from you guys? Friendly handshakes? This appears to be a really great community and I appreciate any and all feedback in advance. Thanks!! By the way, I'm Michael.

I'm thinking of heading out towards NOLA. I'm originally from the Detroit area, so I'm exactly a stranger to violence, and I understand it to be a possibly dangerous place to travel around... but does anyone stay there now, have experiences they can share? advice in that particular area?

Welcome Michael!!! We have a lot of sage advice and info here if ya want to investigate. Lots of people traveling right now. On the way home from work today I saw at least 6 travelers on Monroe Ave Rochester NY - couple of buskers, other people with the big packs and gear and dogs. Travelers!! :) Have fun and stay safe!!

welcome Michael, i grew up in oakland/macomb county. if you haven't traveled up to Traverse City yet then i highly recommend before you leave the state. had the best vacation ever a number of years ago with a friend. sleeping bear dunes, canoeing, putt-putt golf, casino and jet skiing in the grand traverse bay. one of the best places i've ever been.

Hey Lone Wolf... I hung out with a sordid bunch some years ago as well up there. Lot's of warm welcomes, fun times and some pretty crazy nights, no less. This was probably more than 15 years ago though. A girl I met there played me "Wish You Were Here" and shotgunned me for the first time. I don't party like that any more, but any time I hear that song, I can't help but think about her. I wonder what that girl is up to these days. :D
